Heavy snow expected across Kootenays

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for most of southern B.C. including both the East and West Kootenay.

Snow, at times heavy, is expected to start this evening and last until Wednesday morning.

Communities can expect to see anywhere between 10-20 cm of snow over that time.

Two highway alerts are also in effect.

Heavy snow is in the forecast from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.

Around 30-50 cm is expected by Wednesday.

There are also 80 km/h winds in the forecast so visibility will be very limited at times.

An alert is in effect for Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass on Highway 1 as well.

Not as much snow is expected with amounts possibly exceeding 15 cm in the forecast.

Environment Canada recommends postponing trips through the passes if possible for the next few days.
