Davidson Brook fire in Castlegar declared out

A wildfire that burned about two hectares in Castlegar has officially been declared extinguished.

The Davidson Brook fire was discovered Aug. 5, west of the 1100 block of Columbia Avenue. While it didn’t threaten any buildings, its smoke was highly visible.

In a news release, the fire department thanked everyone who supported their efforts, including the BC Wildfire Service, Southeast Fire Centre, and Robson and Ootischenia Fire Departments, as well as those who donated food and drinks.

Other Castlegar-area fires still burning include the Upper Norns Creek fire, discovered Saturday. It’s just under 100 hectares and listed as out of control. The Goose Creek fire is a little over 10 hectares and listed as under control.

Rain this week has helped and air quality is improving. Monitoring indicates it remains unhealthy for sensitive groups in Castlegar and Nelson but is only moderate in Trail.
