UPDATED: Fortis BC responds to power outages in the region

Fortis B.C is responding to power outages throughout the West Kootenay’s that has affected over 7,000 customers.  

Fortis B.C’s outage map shows that 5,000 customers between Trail and Fruitvale were affected as of 1 p.m. Friday afternoon. Crews were able to restore power  for most residents in the area by 1:30p.m.  

1,000 customers in Pass Creek had their power restored shortly after 2 p.m.

1,500 customers in Salmo and Ymir also experienced outages. Power was restored for customers in the Ymir area, but customers between Crow nest Highway Road (Fruitvale) to 2nd Street in Salmo are still without power. A 3 p.m update on the Fortis B.C outage map shows that customers could be without power until about 6 p.m.

Nelson Hydro also responded to outages affecting customers from Johnstone Rd to Red Fish creek, including Harrop and Proctor, at around 12:50 p.m. Crews were able to restore all power in the area by 2:30 p.m.

Fortis says the outages are the result of a fallen tree.
