Wildfire near Rossland suspected to be arson

The Kootenay Boundary Fire Rescue service responded to reports of a wildfire in the Gopher Creek- Deer Park Mt. area on Friday evening around 11 p.m.  

A media release from the KBFR said that 22 firefighters from Rossland, Trail and Warfiled responded shortly after receiving the call and worked through the night and got it under control around 3 a.m.  

The cause of the fire is believed to be arson and the KBFR has involved the RCMP to aid in the investigation. 

The media release stated that as of Friday morning, no structures are threatened by the blaze, but Rossland residents may see smoke visible throughout the day.  

Crews are still on sight with B.C Wildfire monitoring its status.
