Genelle woman’s sudden death not suspicious, RCMP say

Trail RCMP say foul play is not suspected in the death of a 62-year-old Genelle woman.

She was discovered Monday morning by a man walking his dog in the forest near Birchbank Station Road.

Officers spent the day investigating in consultation with the major crimes unit and BC Coroners Service before concluding her death was not suspicious.

“If you are struggling there is help available,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said in a news release. “You do not have to suffer alone. Please reach out to one of the many services available in our community, or contact the Trail Detachment to consult with an officer on options available if you do not know where to turn.”

Wicentowich noted the local RCMP is part of the supporting housing committee and that plans are in the works for a 25-bed shelter to built on Riverside Avenue in Trail.

Men arrested, weapons seized from stolen vehicle

Two men have been arrested on outstanding warrants and drugs and weapons seized from a stolen vehicle in Trail.

Police say Friday evening an officer spotted an uninsured car turning from the Victoria Street bridge onto Second Avenue.

The 36-year-old Trail man behind the wheel had two warrants for his arrest, while his passenger, a 48-year-old Grand Forks man, had one. Both were taken into custody without incident.

Officers searched the vehicle and seized an imitation handgun and rifle, knives, bear spray, ammunition, and 19 grams of a substance believe to be street drugs.

Both men were held in custody until released by a judge pending a future court appearance. The Trail man is expected to face additional charges.
