A 55-year-old Fruitvale woman was taken into custody Wednesday after police received a report that she was planning to injure an officer.
RCMP say the woman was believed to have weapons at her home in the 100 block of Nelson Avenue.
Police partnered with the Interior Health crisis response team and got a warrant under the BC Mental Health Act. An emergency response team went to her home Wednesday afternoon along with local Mounties, firefighters, and paramedics. The woman surrendered peacefully.
Although uninjured, the woman was taken to hospital for assessment. She is not expected to face charges and police did not seize any weapons.
“This RCMP operation brought the woman safely into custody without incident,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said in a news release.
“We would like to thank our mental health crisis team for partnering with us early on, and the other partners for their professional response and actions. As a team, we were able to effectively prioritize this safe apprehension in the course of our duty.”
