Man arrested at Trail hospital for causing disturbance

A man spent some time in jail after causing a ruckus at the regional hospital in Trail.

RCMP say they were called early Friday about a drunk 40-year-old Fruitvale man screaming and refusing to heave the hospital.

He’d been discharged hours earlier, but didn’t want to go and became confrontational with medical staff. He was arrested for causing a disturbance and kept behind bars until he sobered up. He was picked up later that morning by a family member and expressed regret.

“Our medical professionals do their best to deliver quality care while dealing with all sort of behaviour when completing their duties,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said in a news release.

“Please keep this in mind when you attend the hospital. Kindness, patience, and understanding is always appreciated.”

Eyes wide open

Police were called Thursday evening to a report of a man lying on the grass in the 1200 block of the Esplanade in Trail who appeared to be dead.

He was alive, but he told first responders he sleeps with his eyes open. Police believe the man had been using drugs. Companions nearby said they would look after him.

“This was one of the more unusual calls we received regarding alleged street drug use,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said. “I hope his friends remember to moisturize his eyeballs every now and then.”
