Drugs suspected in Fruitvale mother’s death

Trail RCMP say fentanyl poisoning is suspected in the death of a 35-year-old Fruitvale woman.

They say they were called Friday morning to a home on Highway 3B after a family member discovered the woman. Paramedics tried to revive her without success.

Foul play is not suspected, but police found what they believe to be fentanyl at the scene. The BC Coroners Service is investigating.

“This is a tragic incident for our whole community,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich wrote in a news release. “Our heartfelt condolences to the family members affected. The woman left behind one small child and much sadness.”

Last month, 184 people in BC died as a result of toxic drugs, including six in the West Kootenay/Boundary.
