RCMP say a 66-year-old Vanderhoof woman hit by a vehicle in the 500 block of Rossland Avenue in Trail suffered life-threatening injuries.
She was struck Friday shortly before midnight. Police believe the woman was crossing the road outside of a crosswalk when it happened.
They say she remains in hospital in critical condition. The incident was captured on video surveillance and remains under investigation.
Montrose shed burns
Police say a fire in a Montrose shed isn’t considered suspicious.
The building caught fire Sunday morning in the 900 block of 7th Street. A child who lives there reported it to her mother, who called authorities.
“We would like to praise the young girl for reporting the fire and bringing the matter to a safe conclusion,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said in a news release. “Her quick action prevented the fire from spreading and causing further damage to other structures.”
Motorcyclist flees from police
A motorcyclist police tried to pull over Sunday afternoon took off on them.
They say the blue Yamaha with BC plate Z87603 was westbound on the Victoria Street Bridge in Trail when an officer discovered it was uninsured.
The man and the bike were last seen weaving in and out of traffic on Rossland Avenue toward Warfield.
The man is described as white with a blond ponytail, blond beard, and wearing a skull cap motorcycle helmet, sleeveless shirt, and shorts.
Police discovered the motorcycle was recently sold to a man named Glen. They’re asking for help learning who the driver was or where the motorcycle is.
Crash leads to lost license
A 52-year-old Trail man received a 90-day roadside ban after a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon near the intersection of Highway 3B and Highway 22A in Trail.
They say he was the driver of a car that veered into the wrong lane and sideswiped another car driven by a 28-year-old Chilliwack scene.
Both stopped to exchange information and called police. An officer asked the man to provide a breath sample, resulting in a fail. His vehicle was also impounded for at least a month.
No lights, not so bright
A 21-year-old Rossland man was issued a 90-day roadside ban after police spotted him Thursday at 11:35 p.m. driving on Spokane Street without any lights on.
He was asked to provide a breath sample, which resulted in a fail. His vehicle was also impounded for a month.
Found bone not human
A homeowner in the 900 block of Nelson Avenue in Trail discovered a bone while digging a hole in his yard and reported it to police.
An officer sent photos to a forensic anthropologist who confirmed it was non-human.
A little birdie told me
A burglary suspect in Fruitvale was caught thanks to a bird.
Police say they responded early Saturday to a break and enter in the 1900 block of Main Street. Someone had smashed the glass on the front door to get in and stole drinks from inside before taking off. The incident was captured on video.
Early the next morning officers responded to an alarm at a business in the 1400 block of Highway 3B near Fruitvale and found a 35-year-old man sitting in a stolen vehicle outside. He was arrested without incident. Officers believe the vehicle was the same one used in the break and enter.
However, when police and a property representative went through the business they discovered no sign of forced entry or stolen items. Instead, it turned out a bird got inside and set off the alarm.
An officer told the suspect that a bird reported him.
“The police have often relied on stool pigeons to report on crime,” Wicentowich quipped.
