Trail RCMP didn’t have to go far after a jeep crashed into a concrete barricade on Highway 3A. They incident happened on Highway 3A just across from the police station.
Officers standing outside heard the crash just before 7 p.m. Sunday.
They say a 32-year-old city man’s 2011 Jeep Wrangler became high centred on the barricade as a result.
While officers investigated possible driver impairment, it didn’t appear to be a significant factor. Instead, the man told them he was blinded by the sun.
He wasn’t hurt and the vehicle was towed.
“The officers discovered that the response to this incident turned out to be a balancing act,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said.
Woman ticketed in two-vehicle crash
A 73-year-old Penticton woman has been fined $109 for making an improper turn after a two-vehicle crash at the Nancy Greene Junction at Highway 3 and 3B.
RCMP say it happened Friday morning. The Penticton woman was in a Honda Civic and turned left from the stop sign on Highway 3B into the path of a 31-year-old Alberta woman in a Chevrolet Malibu going 100 km/h on a straight stretch of Highway 3.
The younger woman received a minor knee injury. Both vehicles were towed.
“This is a good reminder that traffic significantly increases in our area in the summertime and to remain vigilant while driving,” Sgt. Wicentowich said.
“Drivers can be safer on the road by practising defensive driving, maintaining proper speeds, and staying distraction free. Our officers are out and about conducting traffic enforcement all summer long.”
Unstamped tobacco seized during traffic stop
Trail RCMP seized five packages of unstamped tobacco during a traffic stop.
They say they pulled over a 35-year-old Calgary woman on Sunday evening downtown to check on her license and insurance and found the tobacco in her car.
Unstamped tobacco is illegal, Wicentowich said, noting they have been receiving reports of it being sold in the area. Unlicensed selling of tobacco can lead to charges and fines under the BC Tobacco and Vaping Product Act, he added.
Rise of the machines?
A Trail woman, her two kids, and their vehicle got stuck a car wash at Waneta Junction on Friday. The woman and kids were able to get out without help, but they needed someone to come and open the bay door so their vehicle could get out. Police say the door had reportedly been malfunctioning and was due for repair.
