Trail RCMP say they seized a handgun while arresting a man who had been on the lam for a couple of weeks.
On Friday, an off-duty officer spotted a 41-year-old city man with over a dozen outstanding charges sitting inside a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot.
Police say they had been searching for him since May 25 when he removed his ankle monitoring bracelet and left his home where he had been under house arrest.
Other officers arrived and arrested him without incident. They seized a .22 calibre handgun, ammunition, a knife, and a shoulder holster.
William David Tyler, 41, faces five new firearms offences and three counts of breach of release. He is due in court today for a bail hearing.

A 31-year-old Trail man has been arrested in a downtown break-in early Saturday.
Police say a witness saw someone smash the front door glass at a business in the 1300 block of Cedar Avenue. An officer quickly located a suspect.
He’s further accused of smashing a glass display case and stealing items.

“We ask business owners to ensure their businesses are secured every night, and recommend the installation of alarms and surveillance cameras to deter theft.”
