Foul play not suspected in Castlegar house fire

Castlegar’s fire chief says a house fire in the 600 block of 9th Avenue is not suspicious.

Sam Lattanzio says a dozen firefighters responded to the fire Sunday morning. All of the occupants and pets escaped and no injuries were reported to them or firefighters.

When crews arrived, the home was burning heavily on its north and east sides with fire coming from the windows and heavy smoke from around the eaves and roof. Lattanzio said the home suffered heavy damage.

The cause is under investigation. The occupants are getting help from emergency support services and victim services.
