Former Trail city councillor Robert Cacchioni dies

Former longtime Trail city councillor Robert Cacchioni has died at 76.

According to a Facebook post by his wife Sheena, Cacchioni passed away over the weekend, although she didn’t reveal the cause.

“It is with great sadness to announce that Robert passed away with me by his side,” she wrote.

Cacchioni served many terms on city council, where he was known for his outspokenness. Prior to that served as a trustee on the school board. He was also Trail’s director on the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary board.

He didn’t seek re-election last fall.

According to a bio that used to be on the City of Trail’s website, Cacchioni was born and raised in Trail and spent his entire life there with the exception of his university years and three years teaching in northern BC.

He returned to Trail in 1974 to look after his mother after his father died. He taught in Castlegar and Trail, spending the last decade of his 39-year career at J.L. Crowe Secondary.

He and Sheena together had seven children.
