Record high April temperature set in Castlegar

A new all-time record high temperature for April was set in Castlegar last month.

The weather office at the Southeast Fire Centre says it got up to 28.7 degrees on the 29th, the hottest it has been in April since local record keeping began in the 1960s.

That was despite the month being cooler and wetter than normal overall.

The average temperature for the month of 7.3 was a degree and a half cooler than usual.
New daily record lows of minus-five degrees were set on the 4th and 5th.

The lowest temperature of the month was minus-5.6 on the 3rd. The all-time record low for the month is minus-7.5 on April 1, 1979.

The only snow of the month came on the 1st and 2nd, with trace amounts each day.

We received 80.4 millimeters of rain, which was 141 per cent of the typical 57.1 millimeters and 136 per cent of the average 59.3 millimeters of overall precipitation.

The biggest deluge came on the 27th, when 27 millimeters fell, setting a record for precipitation on that day. All other days received less than 10 millimeters.
