Floodwatch advisory issued for RDCK

The Regional District of Central Kootenay is now under a floodwatch.

Rising water levels in creeks that are nearing capacity has the RDCK asking residents to be prepared for a flood.

According to a media release, with hot temperatures continuing this week as well as the runoff from the snowmelt, and expected rainfall of 30-60 mm in the forecast, there could be potential flooding in the region.

The RDCK is asking residents to take necessary precautions to prepare in the event of a flooding disaster.

They say should outline a detailed evacuation of the area with everyone in the household knowing where to rendezvous if they get separated, including where to move livestock and pets if an evacuation order is enforced.

It is also recommended for residents, and business owners, to review their insurance policy to make sure they are protected against flooding.

Sandbags are available for residents at any locations listed on the RDCK website.

The district, along with Fortis, will monitor water levels daily and should an evacuation be necessary will appear through the Voyant Alert app, the RDCK website and 99.3 The Goat and mykootenaynow.com.

For detailed evacuation notices visit the RDCK website.
