UPDATED: Man sought near Rossland arrested

RCMP say they have arrested a man near Rossland without incident after issuing an alert to the public this afternoon.

Police say around 2:30 this afternoon they confronted a man with a large hunting knife on a property in the 5000 block of Old Rossland-Cascade Highway, but he ran away.

They asked residents near the property to lock their doors and secure their vehicles while the police operation was underway.

Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said in an email around 7:45 p.m. that Levi Sweet was taken into custody without incident.

Wicentowich said he is being investigated for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He has been turned over to Canada Border Services for deportation.
