New Xmas event planned for Castlegar

Two groups have come together to fill the gap left behind from Castlegar’s cancelled Winterfest.

The Pass Creek Regional Exhibition Society and the Dirty Diggers are reaching into their own pockets to give the community an Old Fashion Country Christmas on Saturday December 20th.

Society President Rick Smith says it’s unfortunate Winterfest was cancelled and they aren’t going to be able to replace it.

The Country Christmas will feature live entertainment – including Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus – and will have free transportation to and from the event that has no admission charge.

Winterfest was a casualty in the ongoing labour impasse between the city and its unionized workers as some participants didn’t want to cross picket lines.
