UPDATED: Fatal crash caused Castlegar power outage

A 65-year-old man died in a crash this week with a power pole in South Castlegar.

The accident just after 6:30 a.m. in the 3200 block of Columbia Avenue resulted in a three and a half hour power outage on Tuesday morning for about 760 FortisBC customers.

The name and hometown of the man who died were not released, but he was the lone occupant. Police suspect the man had a medical emergency prior to the crash.

The BC Coroners Service is investigating.
