Fund raiser launched after Meadow Creek saw mill fire

The community can now offer financial support to those affected by last month’s fire at the Meadow Creek sawmill north of Kootenay Lake.

Area D Director Andy Shadrack says a mill workers support account was set up at the Kootenay Savings Credit Union in Kaslo on Friday.

Shadrack says unfortunately a number of the 18 employees affected by the blaze don’t meet Employment Insurance requirements.

He adds insurance isn’t expected to kick in till January.

The sawmill burned down after an explosion and fire last month.

No one was injured and police aren’t treating the incident as suspicious.
