RCMP are looking for a 39-year-old Burnaby man who walked away from a crash scene.
They say it happened at the intersection of Stoney Creek Road and Highway 22, which is the turnoff to Tadanac, a little before 6:30 a.m. on Friday.
The man was driving a truck that turned southbound onto the highway in front of a van driven by a 23-year-old Trail man.
Police say they spoke with him briefly after the incident, but then he disappeared. They still want to speak with him. They suspect alcohol was a factor.
One other oddity: a light standard was sheered from its base because of the collision. It had only been replaced a day earlier after being knocked over in a previous crash.
“Trail RCMP will be conducting increase patrols along Highway 22 to assist in the slowing down the traffic in the area after receiving complaints from the public,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said in a news release. “Some enforcement has already been conducted with tickets for speeding issued.
Driver turns on red
Police say a 35-year-old Trail man was issued a three-day roadside ban after an officer spotted him turning left on a red light onto Rossland Avenue from Highway 22 in Trail on Friday evening.
The man was asked to provide a breath sample that resulted in a “warn.”
Bear trashes vehicle
Police say an SUV suffered “considerable damage” when a bear got inside.
It happened late Sunday in the 1500 block of Thompson Avenue. The bear got into the Suzuki Gran Vitara and set off the airbags and car alarm, which scared it away.
No word what might have attracted it.
