Colleen Jones elected mayor of Trail

Colleen Jones will be the next mayor of Trail. The incumbent councillor beat incumbent mayor Lisa Pasin tonight by a vote of 1,310 to 1,078.

“I’m really thrilled,” Jones said when reached by phone tonight. “The citizens of Trail have voted for change, and I am that change. I’m so excited.”

The council will be made up of Bev Benson (1,681), Terry Martin (1,542), Nick Cashol (1,397), Doug Wilson (1,343), Thea Hanson (1,304), and incumbent Paul Butler (1,009).

Falling short were Ravi Gandha (814), Rebecca Richards (799), Donovan Brown (561), incumbent Carol Dobie (560), Bryan DeFerro (554), Jeff Jones (524), and Glen Byle (393).

Turnout was 37 per cent.

Jones, who grew up in Trail, said she wasn’t sure what her chances were.

“I was going up against a very well-known incumbent, but I hoped the citizens of Trail recognized how hard I worked to be their voice … I’m still in shock.”

Jones says she visited or knocked on over 2,800 doors as part of her campaign.

“It took a lot of time and energy, but I hope I can be a breath of fresh air. I want to be someone [residents] can talk to, that they can approach, and feel comfortable doing so.”
