Nelson’s Fire Chief brings his 36 year career to an end Friday.
Simon Grypma first slid down the brass pole in the Queen City in 1976 as a volunteer and signed up in 1978.
He says the last thirty years has brought huge improvements for fire fighters especially regarding breathing apparatus.
Back in 1978 they had just half a dozen bottles of air between 20 personnel !
Grypma has made home fire prevention his number one priority.
He’s succeeded by new chief Len McCharles.
