Trail RCMP say they have had two more incidents of bears entering homes, in both cases through open windows.
Just before midnight Saturday, they were called to the 700 block of Buckna Street, where a black bear entered and then left after ripping open some boxes. The occupant admitted to leaving out a small amount of household garbage that was believed to have attracted the bear.
A few hours later, they received a report of a black bear getting into a home in the 200 block of Currie Street.
Police say the bear got into garbage and “left behind a special package” in the kitchen.
They say the occupant took precautions to remove all sources of food from her yard, but didn’t expect an open window would lead to this type of incident.
Trail RCMP made recommendations about securing the home until the bear starts hibernating.
Police notified the BC Conservation Service about both incidents.
“Trail RCMP responded to a number of human-wildlife conflict calls this weekend,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said in a news release. “Please be alert as wildlife is very active in our area, and take precautions to prevent future conflicts with prevention.”
Police previously responded to a few other reports of bears getting into homes or yards in West Trail.
