A woman has been sentenced to 18 months probation after admitting to stealing a ferret from a Castlegar pet store.
Court heard the incident happened last June and was caught on video surveillance.
The woman put the $200 ferret in a plastic bag and left the store.
She intended it as a birthday gift for her grandchild.
The ferret was later discovered running loose near the Rec complex.
