Mayor hopes for updated regional district model

The City of Nelson is hoping for progress in improving the relationship between municipalities and regional districts .

Mayor John Dooley says the City is sponsoring the call for the provincial government to give a progress report on a 2010 Regional District Task Force Report and conduct a review of current regional district governance.

Among the issues is the friction caused in fringe areas where regulations mean cities need to provide water and sewer to every home but not so for immediate regional neighborhoods.

Dooley says the charter that created regional districts over 40 years ago needs to be updated.
