Nelson Commons: work set to start

Nelson’s Kootenay Co-Op Store has confirmed they will proceed with the major Nelson Commons downtown residential and retail development.

Preparation for demolition of the old Extra Foods building is set to start in the coming weeks and the construction of the 54 unit residential site and new store will start in the Spring.

Commercial and residential occupancy is slated for the summer of 2016.

The project has been delayed by about a year as the Co-Op waited to secure enough pre-sales and worked out new borrowing terms for the $26 million venture.

It will be the most significant development in Nelson’s downtown in the last twenty years.
