Nelson needs to get on top of its invasive weed situation because they threaten infrastructure and the environment – which will cost taxpayers in the long run.
That’s a key message from the Central Kootenay Invasive Plant Committee.
Technician Mathew Chilakos found over 60 patches of knotweed alone – mainly on private property- and many homeowners aren’t even aware of the threat.
The committee’s Crystal Klim would like to see nelson adopt a strategy to educate homeowners.
In almost all cases the weeds need to be dug out.
