Next steps for Kootenay Lake Conservation Fund

The political hurdle has been crossed and now it’s all about the process of setting up the conservation fund around Kootenay Lake.

Saturday’s referendum in areas A,D and E passed narrowly in favour of taxing homeowners around $15 a year for ten years.

That money will be used to leverage much bigger dollars for local ecological projects.

Kootenay Conservation Program Manager Dave Hillary explains what happens now.

Hillary figures the first call for proposals would come out September 2015 and funding would be available in early 2016 for the chosen conservation projects.

52% of referendum votes were in favour versus 48 against.
