Castlegar loses airport tower tax battle

Castlegar is not too concerned about the Supreme Court of B.C’s decision to uphold the taxable worth of the control tower at the West Kootenay Regional airport at a mere $20.
Nav Canada has been challenging assessments of 120 properties in the province including the facility in Castlegar.

City Manager John Malcolm says the reduction in Nav Canada’s tax rate will be a loss of only $17,000 annually.

Malcolm explains their annual airport budget of over $500,000 allows for fluctuations of up to $30,000.

Other municipalities affected by Nav Canada’s challenge are out hundreds of thousands of dollars.
