UPDATED: Red Mountain to open Thursday

Red Mountain Resort will open for the season on Thursday.

“Please be aware we will have a limited opening to start the season but the snow forecast for the next several days looks very promising,” the ski hill said on its website.

“As our teams on the mountain continue to work diligently these next couple of days, we will provide an update by Wednesday afternoon regarding what runs/chairs will be available.”

On Dec. 15, the mountain reported that it had received 30 cm of snow in the previous week and things were “looking much better” as they prepared to open but they were “not quite” ready to open on Dec. 18 as hoped.

As they prepared for opening, Red asked residents to avoid any and all uphill travel on the mountain, as their teams are operating heavy equipment around the clock as well as avalanche control.

Red did not return messages from Vista Radio last week seeking further comment.
