Castlegar’s unionized city employees have issued 72 hours notice of full strike action.
CUPE Local 2262 President Leford Lafayette said in a press release that following Monday night’s presentation to council it is clear officials do not want to get back to the bargaining table.
Council told union members to go through an independent mediator with a request to reopen negotiations and they support previous recommendations made by the third party.
The union members were offered a 6.1% wage increase over the term of the contract.
However city employees felt their concerns around job security language were not met.
Full strike action is set to start Saturday.
