LED street lights coming to Trail

The city of Trail will start phase one of their LED Street Light Retrofit program in December.

The initial stage of the project will switch 330 lights on city poles in Glennmerry and Sunningdale.

Utilities Superintendent Chris McIsaac says not only will it offer costs savings every year but they’ve also entered into an efficiency program agreement with FortisBC.

McIsaac says the program has a pay-back period of about five to eight years.

The first phase should be completed by the end of January.

McIsaac says they still need to plan the switch of the remaining 570 lights that are on FortisBC owned poles and that could take till 2017.
