Local radon gas advocate:more can be done

Changes to the BC building code after a radon mitigation pilot project involving Castlegar is a huge step forward but more can still be done.

This from Dana Schmidt a director with the Donna Schmidt Memorial Lung Cancer Prevention Society.

The initiative found that current systems are not addressing the radon issue and as of December 19th a new system will be required in construction of homes.

Schmidt says the new changes are a small cost increase that is worth preventing cancer – that can be caused by long term exposure to radon.

Schmidt has been advocating for changes to the BC Building code for years after his wife Donna died from lung cancer.
