An increasing amount of Canadians are going to the US to shop but Americans are not bringing their money to the Silver City.
So says Executive Director of the Trail Chamber of Commerce Norm Casler in response to a new StatsCan study that finds cross-border shopping rose by 72% from 2006 to 2012.
Casler says when Washington residents bring their money north, they are driving through Trail and going to Nelson and Rossland
He explains with the municipal elections around the corner the Chamber will be bringing up the issue to coincide with planned local initiatives.
Casler also believes the Federal government has to address so-called “country pricing” – a policy that results in higher prices in Canada.
