Community blasts CPR over recent late night train change

It’s the little town of Castlegar against the big Canadian Pacific Railway.

Nearly a hundred people attended city council’s regular meeting Monday night as Director of Government Affairs for CP Rail Mike LoVecchio was in attendance to explain recent changes to their West Kootenay operations.

It has resulted in a train running in the early hours of the morning blaring its horn-whistle at each of the seven local crossings.

LoVecchio says their decision was made to improve the efficiency of the service and adds the horn whistle is a federal regulation to keep the community safe.
