The city of Castlegar suggests there’s not much more they can offer their disgruntled unionized workers.
The 34 CUPE workers rejected a mediated offer last week that included a slightly better wage offer than the city had presented earlier in the summer.
CAO John Malcolm says the workers are very well paid in the provincial and regional context and that would have continued had they agreed .
The mediated deal offers over 1.5% wage increases per year on average. CUPE wants 2% and better job security language. Malcolm says no worker has been laid off in 20 years.
The union says all options for escalating job action are open.
