The crucial conversation of downloading from higher levels of government to municipalities is not a new one.
This from Castlegar city councillor Kevin Chernoff in response to a new report that claims local governments in B. take on approximately $4 billion from the Province and the Feds.
The report – released ahead of this week’s Union of BC Municipalities conference in Whistler – claims local governments are paying far more than their share for policing, housing, and waste.
Chernoff adds for a city there is only one source to get funds from and that’s taxpayers who are ultimately the ones effected.
