Senior govt downloading big issue ahead of UBCM

The City of Nelson shares the same police stresses as Vancouver and Victoria outlined in a new report on the scale of provincial downloading .

This from Queen City CFO Colin McClure in response to a report that concludes $4 billion is now shouldered by BC municipalities because of downloading by senior government.

The report says from 2001 to 2010 average policing costs increased 136%.

It notes “disturbed person” calls have rocketed 356% in the provincial capital from 2008 to 2013.

 

The report was released ahead of this weeks Union of BC Municipalities conference that starts today in Whistler.
