Council rejects south Castlegar re-plot development

The City of Castlegar cannot subsidize any private development.

This from Director of Development Services Phil Markin following council’s decision not to approve a number of requests for a re-plot in South Castlegar between 28th and 34th Streets.

The developers had asked Council to waive all variance and development fees, allow overhead services such as power and telephone, not require curb and gutters, sidewalks and storm drainage, and for the City to install the water line.

 

The group of developers have been trying to break ground on the 200 single home project for decades.

They feel the City is obligated to help them after initially encouraging it in the 1970’s.
