RDCK demands MMBC hold-outs brought into line

Frustrated rural directors with the RDCK say it’s up to the provincial government to turn the financial problems around with the new recycling program.

Multi Material BC (MMBC) is out of money and can’t provide proper service to our region and others because many printed paper and packaging companies – who are supposed to pay for the program – haven’t signed on.

Hans Cunningham in Ymir sums up the mood.

The poor roll-out of the program means big municipalities like Vancouver are now getting their recycling covered for free but RDCK taxpayers are still paying about a million dollars to handle things themselves.

The government is looking at fining the company hold-outs and possibly naming and shaming them.
