Trail environment partners sign future remediation commitment

The Trail Health and Environment Committee partners – which have been collaborating for 25 years – have signed a commitment on future remediation efforts .

Chair and Trail mayor Dieter Bogs says programs like soil testing and removal and children’s blood testing have been highly successful in combating the effects of contaminants from Teck.

But up to now they’ve been an informal arrangement.

Future programs will be okayed and regulated by the province.

There will be a public consultation period next year to set new goals and get feedback on what the community wants.

Teck has a new goal of a 50% reduction in fugitive dust over five years and has announced a multi-million dollar recycle building will go over their open metals mixing and storage area next year.
