Castlegar Council Candidate: Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff

It would be Castlegar City Councillor Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff’s third term on council if re-elected on October 20. She feels volunteers are the life blood of a community and has contributed herself at the Community Harvest Food Bank, with the Selkirk Saints, Pass Creek Fall Fair and Chamber of Commerce.

She has an optimistic look towards the future and wants to be involved moving forward.

“We’ve seen growth in our population, our business community, overall development, our building stats are up, retail space is being rented, tourism [is] way up and interest in our city has reached record highs, and our community has continued to be recognized provincially, federally and internationally.”

She says the number one priority for the current council is reliability at the West Kootenay Airport and hopes to see that continue. She lists a few others.

“Supporting our business community, attracting new businesses, creating jobs, promoting our fabulous arts and culture community. I’m going to continue to advocate for improved health care services in our community, we need ensure that we to continue to invest in vital infrastructure.”

She feels proud of the work done in her first two terms over the past seven years, including building Millennium Ponds and doing Columbia Avenue.

She moved to Castlegar 30 years ago to attend Selkirk College and has worked at BC Hydro since 1992.
