Billing relief offered to evacuated FortisBC customers

FortisBC has some good news for customers who were forced from their homes by flood or fire. The company says those costumers will not be charged for energy used while not at home.

There was 2,623 gas and electric customers under evacuation order due to this year’s floods and wildfires, and they will be receiving a bill credit that accounts for the energy they were charged while they were evacuated.

Fortis BC works closely with the British Columbia Economic Development Association in disaster recovery who’s president and CEO, Dale Wheeldon, says work in Grand Forks earlier this year clearly showed the need for some form of financial relief for both residents and businesses.

FortisBC applied to the British Columbia Utilities Commission for approval of the bill credits on August 1. The order was approved on September 14.
