City of Castlegar and CUPE to resume mediation

The city of Castlegar and its unionized employees have a date set to return to the negotiating table.

This after the CUPE local sent a settlement offer to management and an invitation to meet.

The city had always said it was awaiting a response to their final offer.

Here’s City Manager John Malcolm.

Castlegar’s 34 civic workers have been refusing over-time since issuing strike notice with the two sides apart on wages and job security language.

The city is offering an average 1.4% annual wage increase. The union wants 2%.
