Castlegar Council Candidate: Tyler Maddocks

Tyler Maddocks was born and raised in Castlegar and is once again running for City Council. The 31-year-old has run in three municipal elections and two by-elections already.

“It’s something, you know, seven years ago I guess now was the first time I decided to run and at that point I knew it was something I wanted to be in for the long run.”

Tyler says he brings a different approach to his campaigns. He feels it’s not about spending the most money. Maddocks doesn’t spend a lot which he says reflects the caution he would use with tax payer funds as well. He feels he would bring a different perspective to the council table as well being from a younger generation.

He has experience with financial planning and sales and graduated from Selkirk College in Business Administration in 2009. One of the big issues he wants to see improvement on is communication.

“It’s not just here, it’s in communities all over the place and I think it’s just something we really need to look at and say how can we get the people more engaged in this community.” He says the Complex referendum is an example where people seem to be divided and improved communication could help engage the community.

He says he has a few other ideas including a campground at Millennium Ponds which he feels would bring more tourism to the area.
