Accident on 3B closes highway in Trail

Highway 3B was closed near Canadian Tire in Trail on Tuesday night after a vehicle incident around 8:30pm. Captain Grant Tyson with Kootenay Boundary Fire Rescue explains what happened.

“It was a single motor vehicle accident, so it’s a roll over and he sheered off a couple of telephone poles and a lamp standard.”

He says the power lines landed on top of the vehicle. Luckily, the two occupants only had minor injuries.

FortisBC confirms 296 residents in the Beaver Park area lost power – some until morning. Temporary repairs were done last night and FortisBC will be working on permanent repairs on Wednesday and possibly Thursday as well.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says the highway was later kept closed due to downed power lines caused by the storm.

Many areas including Grand Forks, Salmo, Creston and around Nelson were affected by power outages due to severe winds, downed trees and power lines during yesterday’s storm.
