Parents rally for public education

As the teachers strike moves into the first day of a new school year around 500 parents and children showed up for a rally in downtown Nelson today.

They marched along Baker Street to City Hall in support of more funding for public education.

This 17 year old student should have started grade 12 classes today.

He says he’s had a great public education and is calling on British Columbians not to let the ongoing labour impasse detract from that.

Organisers of the rally say the government is only hearing from teachers but parents also want proper funding of the system.
