Castlegar’s L&L Bakery had its last day of business on Saturday, September 29. Owners Lorn and Lorraine Buchanan ran the shop for almost three years. Lorraine says they were getting 30 to 40 customers this summer instead of about 100-120.
“We had a tough winter because of, you know, so much snow and we missed a lot of customers there and we were kind of hoping for our peak that we usually get in the summer to help buffer that and catch up and it never happened because of the construction. Everyone’s just going around and by-passing all the businesses.”
Lorraine says they also had their big freezer die which was part of the problem as well.
Lorn had a message for residents on Saturday, “Don’t forget about all the other small businesses in this town. Without the people’s support, the businesses don’t survive.”
Lorraine echoed those comments, “Yeah, everyone is struggling right now, it’s not just us, so you know, definitely advise everyone to continue to support.”
