Dam City Rollers host open skate

The Dam City Rollers are holding an open skate on Thursday, September 27 in Castlegar. Carly Cotton or ‘Snarly Simon’ as she goes by on the team is the Fresh Meat Coordinator.

She invites those interested in joining the roller derby team to come out. “From 7:30 to 9:30pm at the Selkirk College Gym in Castlegar. This is open to everybody, they can come out and meet us, go for a little skate in the gym. We’ve got some equipment to loan out to people, so no equipment is even required at that point, but if you’ve got some, bring it.”

It’s open to all female-identifying skaters 19 or older of all shapes, sizes and skill levels.

Cotton encourages newcomers not to be intimidated. “The whole group of women is, they’re very, very friendly. We’re really interested in helping people learn. Whether you’re ready to come out and compete the first day or ready to just learn a new skill and meet some new people and try something new.”
