ICBC says claim number reaches over 3500 for Trail acid spills

The latest from ICBC on the number of claims is now over 3,500. It’s some of the largest claim losses ever experienced by ICBC in terms of volume and cost from just two events.

Approximately 1,700 vehicles have been inspected so far and over 1,300 have been deemed with no evidence of exposure or damage from the acid spills. ICBC says this due diligence speaks to why these claims will continue to take time to ensure they are making the correct decision on each vehicle and for each of customer. With the additional staff and other initiatives put in place, there’s a very positive trajectory of estimating in the range of 100 vehicles per day. There has also been an increased trend of vehicles without exposure to, and damage from, the acid spills.

ICBC will be trying to recover the costs incurred from the people responsible for the spills. They say this work has already begun. ICBC says it’s in the process of determining who is at fault and will sue those parties in due course.
